Qumran

Cave 4, where most of the biblical scrolls were found, originally hidden by the Essenes, a religious group who left Jerusalem to form their own isolated community here in the desert
A number of scrolls were found by Bedouins in these caves, the most significant of which were books from the Old Testament, the oldest copy of the Hebrew Bible we have to date

On the way to Qumran, just south of Jerusalem
